European City Facility announces 71 new beneficiaries

The European City Facility (EUCF) has selected 71 new beneficiaries to receive its signature €60,000 support package. Spread across twenty-one European countries, the selected cities will use the funding to develop investment concepts focused on clean energy or energy efficiency. Each beneficiary will also join the EUCF Capacity Building Programme to strengthen their ability to turn plans into actionable investments.

The selected cities were chosen from a record 297 applications submitted during the EUCF’s 7th call. This high demand highlights the ongoing need for support to the local level and local authorities' commitment to delivering on the energy transition, and underlines the strong quality of the chosen proposals.

The Coordinator of the European City Facility, Francisco Gonçalves, Energy Cities, says

“The latest EUCF call for applications confirmed the strong demand for such instruments. It also demonstrated the ambition of cities and their willingness to implement clean energy projects, as reflected in the high quality of the applications received.”

About the EUCF

The EUCF provides financial and technical support to help local authorities prepare investment concepts that accelerate their sustainable energy transition. Backed by the European Union’s LIFE Programme, the scheme offers €60,000 lump sums and targeted capacity building to municipalities, local authorities, and their groupings.

The funding supports a wide range of preparatory activities—from feasibility studies to financial planning. and is open to applicants from all EU Member States, as well as Ukraine and Iceland. National Support systems offer guidance in local languages, while beneficiaries gain access to matchmaking, financing tools, and peer learning opportunities.

The calls of the existing European City Facility are all closed but the European Commission’s LIFE programme has announced more calls should follow. A call alert, catching up on the main outcomes of the European City Facility is available here.
